Review of The Smurfs movie

Being in my late 20's, I grew up watching the smurfs (3:30pm, I had to rush from school to catch the last 15minutes of the show on TV!). So when I heard they doing a remake, part of me wanted to see it, the other didn't. I was worried that, although that movie could have blown my mind, it could also go the other way and destroy my love for these blue characters.

Nevertheless, when my nephew asked me to see it with him, I couldn't say no .

I that although it is not a perfect movie, it is overall more than okay, especially for a kid. I acknowledge that there was some good parts there and there, some good humour for adults. However, I have to say that this is not the old fashion cartoon I am used to, this is a mcuh newer modern version of the happy smurfs, and frankly, I was a little bit disappointed.

I enjoyed the movie to some extent, but I did wish there had been more building of the individual Smurf character. I also wish they had been in their mystical land in the middle of the forest rather than in Central Park New York.

Conclusion? Great movie for kids, but for us, old school smurf lovers, this remake do have some (lots of) room for improvement.

A night at the movies

I give How to Train your Dragon 9.5/10. I may be somewhat generous but I don't care. Dreamworks Animation certainly deserves this mark. This is the best animated movie I have seen in the last three years.

I find it hilarious compared to Avatar by James Cameron. I thought that themovie is so much better regarding the storyline and the character development. The script was remarkable. Note: I did not watch it in 3D because I despise 3D in almost all movies.

Nonetheless I found the visuals to be remarkable even without it. The production is so good, it feels like Pixar HAD to be involved LOL. Is it possible that Dreamworks has finally figured that out? In several sequences just like when I saw UP (my favorite last year movie), I felt like it had to be written by pet-lovers because they show so much much comprehension on building the bonds between a man and an animal.

This bond between the kid and the dragon makes the movie so believable and I savoured every minute of How to Train your Dragon. "How to train your dragon" is smart and brilliant. My favorite scene : Toothless trying to smile. This film is a great movie for all children and adults. I definitely recommend it.

Shopping for a women's electric shaver

Years ago, my sister and I agreed that for bdays, we would not spend more than 30bucks on each other. While it is fun to receive a little present, splurging on the most fancy coffee maker or the newest Apple product seemed a little bit ridiculous to us.

I went online and started browsing the internet for reviews and comparisons. Kuy Tev

Kuy Tev is a common Cambodian meal that you can buy for a few reals in Cambodia. This delicious food consists of a noodle in a soup broth and comes with various meats, offals, meat balls or seafood-

Interestingly, Kuy Tev is pronounced fairly similarly in many countries: 粿條, guo tiao (Mandarin), goh tiew (Cantonese) hu tieu, kway teow (Thai) and kuy tev (Khmer).

The basic recipe is fairly simple:

Water, Chicken or beef bones, Salt, Soya sauce, Sugar, any meat, offals, meat balls or seafood you are craving for.
Cook all ingredient together... Season to taste.

Rice noodles, garlic, pepper, some herbs (such as basil or cilantro), lemon wedge, hoisin sauce, hot sauce, green onions, bean sprouts.

Chop the garlic and saute it until brown and crispy.
Chop some green onions.

Cook the rice noodle until soft but not mushy.

Put the rice noodle in a big bowl, sprinkle with some garlic, green onions, a little bit of pepper.

Pour the soup base over the noodles.

Squeeze a lemon in the noodle soup, add a little bit of hoisin sauce and hot sauce (to your taste), add some basil leaves and finally add lots of bean sprouts while still warm.

Stir well and Enjoy!

Raspberry Spinach Salad

THE INGREDIENTS

* 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
* 2 tablespoons raspberry vinegar
* 2 tablespoons raspberry jam
* 1/8 teaspoon pepper
* 8 cups torn fresh spinach (baby spinach best)
* 2 cups fresh raspberries, divided
* 4 tablespoons slivered almonds, toasted and divided
* 1/2 cup thinly sliced onion
* 3 kiwifruit, peeled and sliced
* 1 cup seasoned salad croutons

THE STEPS

1. In a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine the oil, vinegar, jam and pepper; shake well. In a large salad bowl, gently combine spinach, 1 cup of raspberries, 2 tablespoons almonds and onion. Top with kiwi, croutons and remaining berries and almonds. Drizzle with dressing; serve immediately.
